Ginessa Aguirre - HHS - Sports Highlight
CLASS OF 2025
Ginessa was first introduced to the world of adaptive sports at about age 5 through the Hartford League of Miracles. She has tried many adaptive sports including soccer, bowling, softball, tennis, pickleball and basketball. All of which she has had fun playing but the sport she loved out of all is wheelchair basketball which she continues to play competitively.
Ginessa first joined the Mary Free Bed Junior Pacers Prep team playing wheelchair basketball at the young age of 8 years old. Currently, she plays on the MFB Jr Pacers Varsity team as well as on the Women’s team both of
which are national leagues through the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA). She has been noticed as a scholar athlete by the NWBA for maintaining her academics in good standing at school while playing the sport she loves. After graduating from HHS Ginessa will be attending KVCC to pursue her career in Culinary Arts and will continue playing wheelchair basketball in the Women’s division.
Ginessa and the Varsity team will be competing in the NWBA Junior Wheelchair Basketball National Championships. They will be traveling to Richmond, Virginia on April 4-6, 2025 where they will play with the top 32 ranked teams in the Varsity level. On April 25-27, 2025 Ginessa will travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana and play in the 2025 Women’s and Military Division Wheelchair Basketball National Championships with the Women’s team.
Family Input:
We are extremely grateful to the Hartford Public Schools system as they have supported Ginessa's sports career. Although wheelchair basketball is not a sport that is offered through the school system, HPS has acknowledged Ginessa as an athlete. It truly means alot to us that her competitive adaptive sport has been taken into consideration and is being recognized as a school athlete. We will forever be grateful for all the support that HPS has shown us. Thank you to everyone that has been with us throughout Ginessa’s journey from her 1st day at Preschool through her last day as a HPS graduate. Go Huskies!!
