POSITION: Middle School Principal

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

POSITION PURPOSE:

The principal serves as the instructional leader within the building. He/She is responsible for creating a

safe and orderly environment where learning can take place. To achieve academic success for all, the

principal must plan, implement, direct, and evaluate the school’s programs and activities in a manner

that is in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules, regulations,

and applicable law.

JOB GOAL:

Instructional leader focusing on continuous improvement of student achievement and creating a culture

of excellence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Lead continuous school improvement and curriculum alignment to ensure all students are meeting

or exceeding learning growth expectations

● Ensure research based, best practices of instruction, including the use of technology to enhance the

educational process

● Assess effectiveness of programming

● Monitor and approve the development of individual educational plans

● Develop an effective master schedule

● Administer student assessments

● Perform all aspects of certified staff evaluations and development including but not limited to:

hiring, coaching, IDP development, and evaluation

● Supervision of certified staff, non certified staff, and the student body

● Promote a respectful and positive school climate through proactive approaches to the development

of building culture

● Create and maintain an effective learning environment by ensuring a well disciplined student body

through fair and equitable discipline focusing on positive behavior supports, restorative practices,

and effective communication

● Attend and provide supervision at extracurricular events on a regular basis

● Coordinate daily operations of the building

● Complete and submit mandatory state reports

● Develop and manage an effective school building budget

● Maintain open communication between the school staff, administration, parents, students, and the

community

● Maintain high expectations for self, staff, and students

● Become an active leader in school, community, and/or professional activities

● Implement Board of Education policies and procedures in compliance with state and federal laws

● Other duties as assigned

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:

● Michigan administrator certification

● A Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, preferred.

● Successful administration experience, preferred

● 3-5 years of successful teaching experience, preferred

● All students, certified teachers, and other personnel assigned to the building

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid

conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram

form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the

specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and

the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to

perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies and

administrative guidelines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or

hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or

required by this job include close vision, distance vision. The demands of extended work days (coverage

of building activities and extracurricular activities, etc.) require a high level of physical endurance. This

job requires the ability to handle and balance multiple demands at the same time.

SALARY RANGE:

$92,000 - $100,000 and benefits.
